Three Tennessee Sports Betting Operators Receive Fines From Regulator

Three Tennessee sports betting operators received fines from the state’s betting regulator earlier this week.

BetMGM received the largest fine of the operators, accepting a $25,000 financial hit for allowing bettors to wager on penalties. The state prohibits wagering on topics like injuries and penalties.

Action 24/7, which only operates in Tennessee, received an $18,000 fine from the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council. Action 24/7 was fined for allowing self-excluded bettors to deposit and place bets using the betting app.

Allowing self-excluded bettors to wager often draws the ire of state regulators, who try to emphasize responsible gambling best practices.

Penn Interactive (ESPN BET) received $12,000 worth of fines this week for an issue similar to Action 24/7’s. The operator received a $9,000 fine for failing to self-exclude one bettor, and it also accepted a $3,000 fine for pushing marketing materials to bettors on the state’s self-excluded list.
