Underdog Sports Teams Up With McConnell Golf For North Carolina Sports Betting License

Underdog Sports is launching its first-ever sportsbook platform in the Tar Heel State, and now they have their required North Carolina sports betting partner.

McConnell Golf — which owns and operates Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club, host of the PGA’s annual Wyndham Championship — is Underdog’s official running mate.

“Underdog is thrilled to launch our betting games in North Carolina in partnership with  McConnell Golf,” Jeremy Levine, founder and co-CEO of Underdog Sports, said in a press release. “We’ve spent the last four years building our own technology so we can give sports fans in America new and different ways to enjoy the sports they love. We’re excited to be able to offer that to North Carolinians and look forward to evolving the experience with them.”

Levine has been very vocal in saying that Underdog’s offering is going to be something different than the traditional sportsbook experience.

We’re going to build a not-so-traditional sportsbook,” Levine told Sports Handle last year, promising “a whole new live betting experience that doesn’t feel like the static sportsbook experience in the industry.”

He went on to say, “Ours will look quite different. It will feel more like an immersive experience. And moving forward, we’re looking at different platforms, like voice, augmented reality, virtual reality.”

McConnell Golf is standing behind Underdog and its plans, whatever they may be.

We too believe in thinking differently and challenging the status quo, and there is a lot of star power behind the Underdog Fantasy app,” McConnell Golf COO Christian Anastasiadis said in a statement. “I truly believe we found the right partner.”

Underdog is one of nine operators to submit sports betting applications to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission, which is tasked with overseeing the rollout of sports betting in the state.

There is not an official go-live date for North Carolina betting apps, though Gov. Roy Cooper has said a pre-March Madness launch is what the commission has in mind.
