Indiana’s annual gaming report shows why casino could move 170 miles north

Why would a casino move across the state from Rising Sun to New Haven? The 2024 annual report from the Indiana Gaming Commission might hold some answers.

The Rising Star casino now earns around the same amount it once paid in taxes.

WANE 15 first reported in August that New Haven was in talks with owner Full House Resorts about a possible move and then reported the reaction several days later.

The Commission reported Indiana casino revenues fell roughly 3% in fiscal year 2024, which ended June 30. Collectively, Hoosier casinos hauled in $2.36 billion last year, compared to $2.28 billion this year. While year to year Rising Star winnings fell by only 2%, from $44.7 million to $43.7 million, the number was the lowest ever for the casino, except during the 2020 pandemic.
