Kentucky Kicks Off Sports Betting Today
Share This TagsThe US state of Kentucky will launch legalised sports betting today with Governor Andy Beshear placing the official first bet at Churchill Downs just before 10am local time.
Kentucky legalised sports betting back in April allowing for a whole swath of bets placed on different sporting activities when the Senate House voted in favour by 25-12 to allow for the bill to go to the governor to sign it into law, however it was not actually law until June 28 when it is the first time legal documents passing into law is allowed.
So now today 12 legalised locations will be able to accept sports betting wagers in person and on September 28 mobile sports betting will also become legalised.
Govenor Andy Beshear said on the launch of sports betting: “I’ll be excited to be at Churchill Downs, a little before 10 a.m., to make the first bet. Everything is ready, although there have been some tracks having to do last minutes work to be ready to take them.”
Apart from Churchill Downs he will through the day visit other sports betting locations where the state has legalised bets on the NFL, MLB, NBA, Women’s National Basketball and NCAA baseball.
