The astonishing development of the Las Vegas gambling industry over the past three years continues to impress. The most notable progress has been observed in the state of Nevada, particularly along the iconic Las Vegas Strip, leading the industry to anticipate a continued increase in gambling activity in the state.

Last week, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that the combined gambling winnings from slot machines, table games, and sports betting at 435 major casinos in the state surpassed $1 billion for the 28th consecutive month.

According to statistical data provided by the Gaming Control Board, the growth has been particularly prominent in Clark County. With the exception of a submarket in the southern part of Nevada, all submarkets have experienced growth. The Las Vegas Strip itself witnessed a 4.8% increase in revenue over the past 12 months, positioning itself as a frontrunner.

Las Vegas not only identifies itself as the "Entertainment Capital of the World" but also as a hub for the sports world. The Vegas Golden Knights clinched the Stanley Cup, and the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA are poised for a potential second championship victory, further solidifying this status.

As Las Vegas continues to flourish as a center for sports and entertainment, the aviation industry has taken notice and increased flight offerings at McCarran International Airport to meet the growing demand.

The airport is expected to accommodate more passengers in 2023 than at any point in history. People are eager to visit the city, whether it's to watch an international soccer friendly match at Allegiant Stadium or explore the numerous entertainment venues along the Las Vegas Strip.

While casino companies have long recognized that ancillary attractions, such as ticket sales, high-end restaurants, and luxurious accommodations, can generate more revenue than casino games themselves, it's only natural to assume that some visitors to Las Vegas would want to try their luck at blackjack or slot machines.

This is exactly what's happening along the Las Vegas Strip. During the 2022-23 fiscal year, gamblers wagered an astonishing $142.6 billion on slot machines, with $113.2 billion occurring in Clark County and $59.3 billion at the 62 licensed locations on the Las Vegas Strip. They also placed bets totaling $34.9 billion on table games throughout the state, with $33.1 billion in Clark County and $25.9 billion on the Strip.

One reason for the sustained popularity of slot machines is that the total amount wagered on them statewide increased by 4.4% compared to the previous year. In contrast, the total amount wagered on table games and card games decreased by 1.4% statewide. While coin-in games saw single-digit percentage growth, coin-in games along the Strip had a 10% increase, the second-highest growth rate in the state, surpassing Sparks' 11.7%. A new casino property in Sparks contributed to this increase in its debut year.

Out of the $142.6 billion wagered on slot machines statewide, casinos retained $10.2 billion, while out of the $34.9 billion wagered on table games, casinos gained $4.9 billion. This fiscal year, casinos won $15.1 billion, marking a 3.2% increase from the total winnings in the 2021-22 fiscal year.

On the Las Vegas Strip, casinos won $5.93 billion from slot machine gambling, and $2.59 billion from table game bets. Last year, the Strip's casinos won $8.5 billion, reflecting a 4.8% increase from the previous year, second only to Sparks.

Two other factors influencing these winning statistics are the number of establishments and luck. As of the beginning of the 2022-23 fiscal year, there were 453 licensed operators in the state. By the end of June, that number had decreased to 435, but it's still on the rise. On the Las Vegas Strip, the number of licensed operators decreased from 62 to 59.

Luck also plays a role, with casino win percentages changing annually. All signs point to the number of games only increasing in the near future. Thousands of people will come to the city to watch the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix and the 58th Super Cup match. They'll also be eager to experience the newly completed MSG Sphere and enjoy performances by U2 and "Postcards from Earth." The home game schedule of the Las Vegas Raiders is also captivating, attracting large audiences of opposing teams' fans.

People will have the opportunity to stay at the new Fen Dan Bai Lu Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip or the newly constructed Durango Hotel in the southwest area. Looking ahead, the Oakland Athletics team seems poised to move in, and the NBA might eventually hold a franchise, while Tilman Fertitta and the Oak View Group are set to construct a new resort on the Strip. Various airlines, including some new ones from Harry Reid, will continue to increase flights, and eventually, high-speed rail connections to and from Southern California will be introduced.

The industry believes that now is a prime opportunity to capitalize on the momentum in the gambling and resort businesses.
