Nevada Gaming Posts $1.3 Billion in Revenues For September

Nevada reported a $1.3 billion in gaming revenue for September, the figure represents a 3.3% increase compared to the same month in the previous year, however, this overall positive trend masks some underlying volatility, particularly in the baccarat sector, which experienced a notable decline

In September, baccarat saw a significant drop in its “hold” rate, which refers to the percentage of wagers that the casino retains as revenue. This decline was a crucial factor contributing to a 1.8% revenue decrease on the Las Vegas Strip, which reported $727.7 million in total gaming win. The lower hold rate, recorded at 11.6%, fell short of the previous year’s exceptionally high hold percentage of 21.5%.

Despite the baccarat-related challenges, the overall gaming performance on the Las Vegas Strip still showed promise. Excluding baccarat, revenues increased by 3.4% for the quarter, indicating that other gaming areas are thriving.

While the Strip faced challenges, downtown Las Vegas experienced a turnaround with a 33% increase in gaming revenue.

The dynamics of the local market also played a role in the revenue boost for downtown casinos. With a 15.9% rise in revenue for Clark County local casinos and a 12.4% increase in Reno, it is evident that the gaming industry is adapting to changing consumer behaviors and preferences.

Despite the positive September results, the statewide quarterly revenue reflected a 2.6% decline from the previous fiscal year.

September marked a good month for Nevada sportsbooks, which reported record-breaking betting revenue of $80.9 million. This figure represents a 29.8% increase compared to the same month last year.

While downtown Las Vegas experienced significant growth, other local markets showed varied results. The Boulder Strip recorded a 19.3% revenue increase, indicating a healthy demand for gaming in that area. However, South Lake Tahoe faced challenges, with an 18.8% decline in revenue.
