Boyd Gaming Acquires Resorts Digital In New Jersey

By integrating Resorts Digital’s operations, Boyd Gaming aims to leverage the acquired company’s proven success and expand its foothold in New Jersey’s leading iGaming state. “We are confident that this transaction will propel Resorts Digital’s proven success over the past decade to a new level through the scale of Boyd Interactive and its market-leading platform,” stated Resorts President Mark Giannantonio.
Through this acquisition, Boyd Gaming now owns the iGaming sites ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com, as well as a New Jersey sports betting skin attached to Resorts Casino. This expanded digital portfolio allows Boyd Gaming to enhance its online offerings and provide a more comprehensive gaming experience for its customers.
Despite the acquisition, Resorts Digital will maintain its existing partnerships with prominent industry players such as DraftKings, ESPN BET, and PokerStars. This approach ensures a seamless transition and preserves the existing customer relationships and brand recognition that Resorts Digital has cultivated over the years. Additionally, Boyd Gaming’s 5% stake in FanDuel.

The acquisition comes at a time when both Resorts Digital and Boyd Gaming are experiencing impressive financial performance. Resorts Digital has reported over $390 million in iGaming revenue year-to-date in New Jersey, while its legal sports betting partners DraftKings and ESPN BET have collectively generated $181.6 million in 2024 revenue. Similarly, Boyd Gaming’s Q2 2024 revenue reached $967.5 million, representing a 5.5% year-over-year increase, with Adjusted EBITDA of $344.2 million.
This acquisition is a significant milestone for Boyd Gaming, which currently operates 28 gaming properties in various states and one tribal casino in Northern California. The addition of Resorts Digital’s operations further strengthens Boyd Gaming’s digital capabilities and positions the company for continued growth in the online gaming sector.
In 2018, Boyd Gaming forged an alliance with MGM Resorts International, which allowed both gaming operators to expand their online sports betting and mobile casino offerings in shared jurisdictions. This partnership has proven to be a valuable asset, as it enables Boyd Gaming to leverage MGM Resorts’ expertise and resources to enhance its digital capabilities and reach a wider customer base.
