Bet365 Fined $33,000 For Accepting Bets on Pre-Determined Outcomes
Share This TagsThe New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has fined Bet365 $33,000 following an investigation that found the company had accepted wagers on events where the outcome was already known, as well as on games that were not approved for betting in the state. This included instances where the company took bets on a mixed martial arts match that had been held a week earlier and was being shown on tape, as well as on a college basketball game where the start time had been moved up by an hour, but the pre-match odds remained in place.
In addition to the issues with pre-determined outcomes, Bet365 also faced disciplinary action from regulators for unilaterally changing the odds on certain bets, resulting in customers being paid less than they were entitled to. The company claimed that these changes were due to “obvious error,” but the regulator noted that any such alterations must be approved before implementation.
Bet365 provided several explanations to the regulators for the mistakes, including human error in incorrectly loading event start times into their betting applications and software malfunctions. The company also stated that it has retrained its workers to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.
