Pennsylvania: Casino fined $100K for accepting sportsbook wagers via telephone

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board recently levied a six-figure fine against a Philadelphia casino for accepting sportsbook wagers from a patron who was not physically on the property.

Stadium Casino RE, LLC, the owners and operators of Live! Casino in south Philadelphia, were fined $100,000 by the board for booking more than $287,000 worth of sports wagers over the telephone during an eight-day period.

The PCGB said in a release that such bets are considered “proxy wagers” and constitute a regulatory gaming violation. In addition, the board noted that the Pennsylvania Gaming Act specifically prohibits casinos from knowingly accepting a wager from any person other than the person making the wager.
