Louisiana Names Christopher Hebert State’s New Gaming Control Board Chairman

Christopher Hebert will replace Ronnie Johns as the new chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, the state’s sports betting regulator. Johns officially leaves the position at the end of the month.

Hebert, who was appointed to the position by Governor Jeff Landry, is the first Black chairman of the LGCB.

“I am both humbled and honored that Governor Landry has tapped me as the first African-American Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board and I vow to continue the hard work of previous chairmen in ensuring that gaming is free from criminal and corrupt elements,” Hebert said in a press release. “We will continue to regulate in a fair manner, which ensures that our gaming licensees are able to operate in an environment that generates healthy revenue for the state through economic development.”

Hebert has ample gaming and legal experience, spending the last 19 years as an assistant attorney general for Louisiana, working the last eight years as the Director of the Gaming Division.

He’s worked with the LGCB to craft sports betting regulations, and he played a key role in the creation of the Problem Gaming Resource Services program. The program aims to educate Louisiana’s population about problem gambling, while also offering free problem gambling aid to state residents.

“He has the experience and background needed to properly regulate such a large industry,” Gov. Landry said in a press release. “I look forward to the great work he will do for our state and our economy.”
