Powerball Jackpot Hits $1 Billion

Monday night’s Powerball jackpot is worth an estimated $1 billion, the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot ever.

“This is no April Fools’ Day joke, we have an advertised Powerball jackpot that’s hit $1 billion to kick off the month of April,” said Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, in a news release. “This is an exciting time to play Powerball. Whether you’re a frequent or new player, please remember to keep the game fun by playing responsibly. It only takes one ticket to win.”

Monday’s drawing will take place at 10:59 p.m. ET, with ticket sales cutting off shortly before the drawing. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Recent winners

It’s been quite a while since a lottery customer won the Powerball. The last Powerball winner occurred in Michigan on Jan. 1, with someone winning a grand prize of $842 million. There have been 38 consecutive Powerball drawings without a winner since the Jan. 1 winner.

Should someone win Monday’s jackpot, the winner will choose between an annuitized prize worth an estimated $1 billion or a lump sum payment of roughly $483 million.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1-in-292.2 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1-in-24.9. Several players won $1 million in the most recent drawing, including customers in both Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Michigan and Pennsylvania are two of the few U.S. states with lotteries, legal online sports betting, and legal mobile casino apps.
