Fanatics Sportsbook Begins Taking Wagers In Kansas

Fanatics Sportsbook announced Thursday it has begun taking wagers in Kansas, marking the 17th state it has completed migrating its sports betting platform from PointsBet.

PointsBet had been in the Sunflower State since launch in September 2022 but struggled to distinguish itself among the six sports betting apps available there despite providing more than $2 million in promotional bonuses and credits. It generated $41.2 million in 18 months of wagering, with more than 20% of that amount coming in October when it accepted $8.6 million worth of bets.

Fanatics Sportsbook enters Kansas approximately five months after ESPN BET did so as part of its national rollout last November. That said, there is a window for Fanatics to make up ground: ESPN BET has seen month-over-month handle slide from a peak of $22.6 million in December to $14.7 million in February, and Caesars has topped $15 million just once in the last 13 months.

Fanatics Sportsbook is nearly done migrating its platform where PointsBet had been operating, with Illinois the last major market on the list. Fanatics, though, should be close to completing that transition after being granted a management services provider license by the state’s Gaming Board earlier this month required to offer mobile betting. Fanatics Sportsbook launched in five markets during a busy February, highlighted by entering New York, and was part of a mass mobile launch in North Carolina earlier this month.

Fanatics Sportsbook is keeping itself on the forefront of North Carolina bettors’ minds, serving as the title sponsor of the North Carolina Cup. The PPA Tour pickleball stops in Cary in the first week of April, and the field is expected to include World No. 1 players Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters as well as former tennis pros Jack Sock and Genie Bouchard.

“We are excited to sponsor the PPA Tour’s North Carolina Cup,” said Ari Borod, Chief Business Officer, Fanatics Betting and Gaming. “Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States and with the best pickleball athletes in the world coming to North Carolina, we can be a part of it in a big way.”

Fanatics Sportsbook launched in North Carolina on March 11 as part of the state’s mass entrance into the mobile sports betting space. The Tar Heel State was the second to begin taking wagers in 2024, joining Vermont.
