Report: Jaguars Ask FanDuel For Millions Lost By Team Employee

After a Jacksonville Jaguars employee burned through more than $20 million in company money on sports betting sites and daily fantasy sports apps, the Jaguars are asking FanDuel to reimburse them for the losses, according to an ESPN report

The team’s employee, Amit Patel, was fired last February and faces up to 30 years in prison for stealing $22.2 million from the team over four years. His attorney alleges that 99% of the money was used for gambling, and ESPN’s report suggests FanDuel was his betting app of choice.

ESPN further reports that the franchise and FanDuel are in discussions about a possible settlement. It’s unclear, however, if FanDuel has any desire to oblige the Jaguars’ request or if the NFL franchise even has any standing to ask FanDuel to reimburse them for the gambling losses.

“I would be gobsmacked if [a settlement] happened,” one source familiar with the situation told ESPN.
