Are you a sports enthusiast living in Vermont? Get ready for an exhilarating experience as mobile sports betting is set to launch in the state on January 11, offering you the opportunity to bet on your favourite teams and players from the comfort of your own home. In an exciting development, Republican Governor Phil Scott has announced that Vermonters and visitors alike will soon have access to a regulated sports wagering marketplace, complete with important consumer protections and revenue generation for the state.
Governor Scott’s announcement comes after years of effort to legalize sports wagering in Vermont. In June, he signed a bill into law, making online sports betting legal in the state. This move aligns Vermont with nearly three dozen other states that have already embraced this popular form of gambling.
The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery has chosen three industry-leading companies to operate the mobile sports wagering platforms in the state. DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook have been selected based on their expertise and reputation in the field. Their platforms will provide Vermont sports fans with a seamless and secure betting experience.
One of the key priorities of the Vermont sports betting initiative is to ensure consumer protection. The Department of Liquor and Lottery, in consultation with the Department of Mental Health, will closely monitor the impact of sports betting on problem gambling in the state. Each year, a report will be provided to the Legislature, shedding light on the effects and addressing any concerns.
To further prioritize responsible gambling, operators will be required to submit an annual responsible gaming plan to the state. This plan will outline measures such as the posting of materials related to problem gambling, resources for bettors with concerns, player limits set by the house, and self-exclusion programs. By implementing these safeguards, Vermont aims to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all sports bettors.
The introduction of mobile sports betting in Vermont is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s revenue. Governor Scott predicts that the sports betting operation could generate up to $7 million in revenue during its first full year of operation. This revenue will contribute to various state initiatives and programs, benefiting both residents and visitors.
