Police in Malaysia have arrested ten people in their continued search for clues linked to the MYR4.6m ($973,000) theft of casino chips from a Genting Highlands casino.

Bentong Police Chief Zaiham Kahar stated cops were still hunting for suspects after casino officials reported the theft last Saturday from Resorts World Genting at Genting Highlands, where the Kuala Lumpur-based casino giant operates Genting Casino and SkyCasino.

News of the multiple arrests, however, emerged Sunday with police stating they picked up the individuals following a number of raids in order to “assist with investigations.”

According to Inside Asian Gaming, police discovered the chips has been stolen after security reported a break-in at Genting Highlands. “One of the casino rooms where the chips were stored had been broken into by force,” IAG cited law enforcement officials as stating.

While the operator will no doubt be wanting to recoup the stolen chips, Genting Malaysia is, however, sitting pretty on profits. The casino operator, chaired by Genting Group billionaire Lim Kok Thay, reported a healthy 17% year-on-year rise in revenue at Resorts World Genting to MYR1.53bn ($329bn) in the three months to June 30, 2023.
