UAE Considers Granting Casino Licenses Across Its Emirates

Share

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is considering granting one casino license to each of its seven emirates in an attempt to investigate the lucrative gambling tourist market. The goal of this action is to capitalize on the gaming industry’s potential while keeping expansion at a moderate rate.

Even if the idea seems good, it’s crucial to remember that not every emirate will seize the chance right away. For example, Dubai, a well-known emirate in the United Arab Emirates, is reluctant to open casinos right now.

Notable casino operators remain enthusiastic despite the possibility of casinos in Dubai being shelved for the time being.

UAE’s First Integrated Resort in the Works

Leading US casino operator Wynn Resorts is now working on the construction of what will eventually be the first integrated resort in the United Arab Emirates. This resort will be located on Ras Al Khaimah’s artificial Al Marjan Island and is expected to open its doors in 2027.

The $3.9 billion resort will have a posh hotel with more than 1,000 rooms, a posh mall, cutting-edge conference spaces, a first-rate spa, a variety of eating options, and a host of entertainment venues.

According to the article, Abu Dhabi is also looking at the potential of opening a casino. One of the main locations under discussion is Yas Island, which is home to the Yas Marina Formula One Circuit and other attractions.

MGM Resorts, a major participant in the casino business, is unfazed by Dubai’s apparent lack of enthusiasm for the industry. The business is aggressively working on plans to create a 1,500-room hotel next to the well-known Burj Al Arab structure.

During a recent conference session held at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas, Bill Hornbuckle, the CEO and President of MGM, voiced confidence over the future of the UAE.

Hornbuckle stated, “We’re very progressive and excited by what could happen there. We think there’ll be three or four (casinos) in the emirates. It’s up to each ruler to decide what they want to do and where they want to do it. We’re positive. I’d love to be in Dubai with an operating company that has a casino in it, but one step and one day at a time.”

It is clear that different emirates have different perspectives and concerns for this crucial stage in the gaming business as the United Arab Emirates negotiates the process of possibly adding casinos. The future of gambling tourism in the area will be significantly shaped by the choice to accept or reject casino license.
